Overview

Manufacturing Engineer role at Magna International (Cosma) in a die casting facility. Reports to the Senior Manufacturing Engineer and works to deliver tasks and projects by defined deadlines while supporting operational activities and improvements. Applies lean manufacturing principles to optimise manufacturing operations, supports equipment specification and supplier evaluation, and contributes to cost-effective, high-quality production.

Role Responsibilities

  • Technical lead for site capital and tooling
  • Prepare and update equipment Statements of Requirement (SORs) and perform technical comparisons
  • Collaborate with SMEs to develop SORs
  • Maintain list of equipment suppliers with Purchasing Department
  • Identify new suppliers and verify capabilities
  • Summarise equipment and installation costs for quoting new business and proposed engineering changes
  • Standardise components to minimise spare parts inventory costs
  • Lead Capital Expenditure (CapEx) activities related to equipment purchasing, timing, and budget
  • Lead Machine FMEA for major equipment and identify CI/Lean opportunities to reduce risk priority number (RPN)
  • Ensure conformity to IATF16949
  • Apply experience across CNC, Assembly, automation and Heat Treatment technologies
  • Manage on-site contractors during capital/tooling installation and FAT close-out
  • Lead and drive close-out of PAT/FAT items
  • Understand SPC tools and techniques (Gauge R&R, 6Sigma, GD&T)

Lean Manufacturing & Process Improvement

  • Utilise work methods and instructions; support equipment layout to optimise product flow (VSM)
  • Develop pre-production packaging solutions for WIP and Finished Goods
  • Lead and train implementation of Industrial Engineering methodologies around Assembly, automation and CNC technologies
  • Implement, train and validate Standardised Work processes per Magna Factory Standard
  • Drive cross-functional Root Cause Analysis (8D, 5Y, Ishikawa)
  • Provide engineering solutions to production escalations and train where necessary
  • Lead CI activities to improve OEE and output; share best practices across the group
  • Project manage equipment suppliers, build, installation and acceptance; ensure on-time delivery within budget and quality
  • Support equipment drawing review and approval with supplier and cross-functional teams
  • Document equipment run-off at suppliers and on-site FAC (Final Acceptance Complete)
  • Review and standardise buy-off criteria for current and new capital

Other Responsibilities

  • Understand process documentation and customer-specific requirements
  • Be aware of relevant ISO and BS standards related to requirements
  • Prepare and present material for program review meetings
  • Lead and coordinate RFQs, proposals, statements of work, specifications, and contract execution
  • Uphold the company Fair Enterprise and Employee Charter principles
  • Perform other duties as required; identify opportunities for data capture improvements

Essential Experience

  • Higher education qualification in an Engineering-related discipline
  • Experience with PFMEA/Control plan management
  • In-depth understanding of Lean Manufacturing methodologies and their application (standardised work, poka-yoke, etc.)
  • Experience in an automotive manufacturing environment

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in Die Casting environments, preferably tooling
  • Project management experience
  • Capital delivery experience (PAT/FAT)

Plant conditions may involve heat, cold, dust, hot objects and loud noises. Full Health and Safety training and PPE provided.
