Overview

Reporting to the AGM, the HPDC Process and Business Unit Manager is responsible for the management and performance of all High Pressure Die Casting plant and directly associated processes, teams and production requirements across 3 shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Strategically plan, manage and oversee production and process engineering departments to meet customer and business demands through appropriate scheduling of jobs (develop daily/weekly/monthly production plans), throughout prototype, pre-production, SOP and production
  • Promote quality, lean management and WCM Principles throughout the department
  • Ensure that manpower is scheduled to cover all production requirements across 3 shifts
  • Ensure that all production materials and consumables are sourced where needed
  • Ensures close control of furnace and metal management
  • Build an effective and empowered team that possess the skills and motivation to generate quality output whilst meeting departmental and divisional goals
  • Work closely with the Planning and Logistics Manager to ensure plans and agreed corrective actions are met to protect customer supply
  • Effectively build customer relationships
  • Develop, collate and report HPDC performance KPI’s to all levels of the business
  • Develop the team through coaching and mentoring and provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards, regular reviews and monitoring of competence and performance
  • Involvement in machine selection and maintenance
  • Budgetary control of the department
  • Work with other departments to ensure that production is cost effective
  • Follow and comply with all Operational Procedures and Policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environment programs
  • Understand, promote and practice Magna’s philosophies and Employee Charter
  • Promote the companies HSE policies across the department and plant
  • Drive a 5S culture and structure within Business Unit
  • Coordinate and direct process improvement projects making detailed plans to accomplish goals. Present and explain proposals, reports and findings to internal customers and suppliers.
  • Participates in KLT meetings, Operational Management meetings, Town Halls and any other business-related meetings.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Essential Experience

  • Experience of Tier 1 Automotive supply
  • Experience within the Castings sector
  • Degree in either Business, Engineering or similar related field
  • Previous experience within a similar leadership role within either automotive, engineering or manufacturing sector
  • Knowledge of Advanced Manufacturing techniques: Lean trained – e.g. VS mapping/Material flow/ CI / KAN BAN
  • Proven track record in people management
  • Ability and desire to provide very high levels of customer service and work to high levels of accuracy
  • Strong ability to lead, mentor and coach team members
  • Strong practical knowledge of SAP/MRP/ERP systems
  • Good mathematical aptitude with previous experience of managing budgets
  • Sound business understanding
  • Ability to interpret and challenge the status quo
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
