Job Responsibilities: Working for a T1 Automotive supplier, reporting to the Engineering Manager the Controls & Automation Engineer (AMR champion) is responsible for the implementation and programming of the AMR Routes also being part of the Controls team across site. Playing a leading role in the specifications of the AMR Fleet integration with new automated lines or development of Assembly cells and automation aspects within other processes such as CNC lines, HPDC machines, Heat Treatment amongst others.

Role Responsibilities: The role involves but is not limited to:

  • Promote the companies HSE policies across the department and plant (HASAWA)
  • Identify and deliver controls improvements to existing and new OEM architecture, providing greater operator interactions and process improvements
  • Directly involved with diagnosing & physically delivering solutions
  • Provide sustainable automated solutions that communicates performance efficiently with the end user
  • Daily dialogue with the Production team to ensure clear understanding of the business needs
  • Develop & maintain process documentation
  • Work directly with the AME and NPI team on the specification of automated solutions
  • Develop and implement process improvement strategies delivered through uptime, quality improvements and cycle time reduction
  • Maintain a grasp on daily performance (OEE) and drive improvements
  • Lead Continuous Improvement activities across the department
  • Effective management of program back-ups and version control
  • Investigate, troubleshoot & resolve automation failures
  • Eliminate the risk of spill of non-conforming product through the processes with automated solutions
  • Providing a key resource in new product launches/burst builds/sampling events
  • Integration of cell upgrades through hardware additions
  • Demonstrate cost justification criteria for capital spend

Essential Experience:

  • Qualified to a minimum HNC level or equivalent in Manufacturing /Electrical Engineering
  • ABB knowledge (IRC5)
  • Siemens TAI & S7 PLC project development
  • Siemens S7 - General PLC Programming
  • Siemens WinCC / WinCC Flex project development
  • Ability to troubleshoot process control on automated manufacturing line
  • Revision & version management experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Packages (Word/Excel/PPT)
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Creation of SWIs
  • Lean manufacturing/ OEE workings
  • Continuous Improvement Activities
  • POKA YOKE (error proofing methods)
  • Understanding of control systems
  • Root cause analysis/ 8D
  • Implementation/Optimisation of vision systems
  • Experience of process change management
  • Data extraction
  • Proven ability to train others

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience with robot end of arm tooling design & function
  • Understanding of VSMs
  • Previous Automotive T1 experience
  • Involved in APQP, PPAP, “Run at Rate”
  • Methodical DOE approach
  • Pneumatic Hydraulic and Mechanical fault-finding ability
