Job Responsibilities: The Metrology Engineer is responsible for maintaining effective operation, development and continuous improvement of the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and Blue Light Technology systems (GOM) and their outputs. The engineer is also responsible for team technical support and identification of new technologies to further enhance capacity, efficiency and output. The role includes active participation in, and leadership of, dimensional reviews and guidance, New Product Introduction (NPI) & Launch metrology support and general business metrology continuous improvement activities. Following the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle and formal problem solving and Quality Engineering disciplines, this role will include the statistical analysis of data utilising the advanced functions of Excel, and statistical software (SPC) to drive tooling and process capability development.
- Programming (Calypso/GOM).
- Maintain CMM/GOM software and ensure latest updates are applied.
- Coordinate measurement assessment.
- Fixture Design (CMM/GOM).
- Use escalation processes and procedures where required for dimensional issues.
- Implement, facilitate and maintain SPC use and understanding throughout the business.
- Statistical analysis using appropriate software (Minitab/SPC).
- Development and maintenance of all Metrology equipment.
- Coordinate program status generation & updates with the QA Engineering.
- Design, coordinate & participate in MSA studies and where required, lead dimensional reviews across functions, actively promoting product continuous improvement.
- Actively promotes continuous improvement and lead problem solving activities primarily in the metrology function but support wider operational areas of the business.
- Promote the companies HSE policies across the department and throughout the plant.
- Any other duties/tasks defined by the Quality Manager.
EXPERIENCE:
- Excellent communication skills for interfacing with customer, suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Quality experience within a shopfloor manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge and experience with the PPAP & APQP processes.
- Experience in a high-volume automotive manufacturing facility.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong understanding of the Quality Core Tools – APQP, SPC, MSA, FMEA, PPAP.
- Experience in root cause analysis and practical problem solving.
- Proficient with Business Operating Systems in accordance with IATF 16949.
- Computer literacy.
- Strong GD&T understanding and application.
- CMM & GOM programming.
Desirable:
- Die casting experience.
- Experience using handheld measuring equipment.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Six Sigma qualifications.
- Active interest in new technological developments.
