Magisters Education are actively looking for an experienced and confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a primary school in Crediton on a temporary, full-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled and ambitious teaching assistant to take on greater responsibility in the classroom, delivering high-quality learning experiences and having a meaningful impact on pupils' progress and wellbeing.

As an HLTA, you will plan and deliver lessons, lead small group and whole-class sessions, and provide targeted support to pupils across a range of needs, all while working collaboratively with teachers and wider school staff.

Key Responsibilities

As an HLTA, you will play an important role in supporting pupils and school communities. You will be expected to fulfil the following responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver whole-class lessons in the absence of the class teacher
  • Lead targeted intervention sessions for individuals and small groups
  • Support pupils with special educational needs (SEN), including ASD, SEMH and SEND
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, feeding back to the class teacher and senior staff
  • Assist in the creation and adaptation of learning resources to meet diverse needs
  • Promote positive behaviour and maintain an inclusive, supportive classroom environment
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues
  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies at all times
Role Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant or HLTA in a primary school setting
  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification and experience
  • Confidence in leading whole-class sessions and delivering prepared lessons
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
