As a Cancer Support Specialist within Maggie's you will actively support centre visitors to understand and articulate their cancer‐related concerns. Through ongoing work with individuals, families and groups you will help them to engage with, and utilise, Maggie's psychosocial programme of support. You will ensure people feel welcome, valued and heard, creating conditions for ongoing relationships with those accessing the Centre and exploring the full range of Maggie's support programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead delegated aspects of the provision of an integrated programme of cancer support to people affected by cancer.
  • Elicit cancer‐related concerns and assess the psychological and emotional state of self‐referring visitors, providing clinical and technical information as required and delivering Level 3 psychosocial support on each visit.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure appropriate internal referrals and support utilization for centre visitors.
  • Lead delegated aspects of the facilitated psychosocial and psycho‐educational components of Maggie's programme, including relaxation and stress‐management programmes and supervised facilitation of network groups.
  • Contribute to raising awareness of and enabling access to Maggie's Centre.
  • Seek advice and supervision as required, following formal supervision procedures and for highly complex cases.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Nursing degree (or equivalent training) with current state registration and at least three years post‐qualification experience in oncology nursing or a related setting.
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field is desirable.
  • Experience of person‐focused care support and a commitment to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Broad, up‐to‐date clinical knowledge in cancer, with strong interpersonal skills to assess support needs and elicit concerns.
  • Well‐organised, emotionally sensitive, and resilient, able to manage the demands of ongoing emotionally intense work.
