Salary: Up to £150,000 for an exceptional candidate + excellent benefits
Maggie’s provides free expert psychological, emotional and practical support for people with cancer, and their family and friends, in welcoming centres alongside NHS hospitals and online. Our ambition is to be there for everyone with cancer who needs us. We combine outstanding support, exceptional places and strong partnerships, guided by courage, integrity, kindness and working with each other.
As Maggie’s continues to grow its network and programme of support, strong financial leadership will be essential to ensuring that our resources are used responsibly and achieve the greatest possible impact for people with cancer and their families. The Finance Director will play a central role in safeguarding the financial strength, integrity and long‑term sustainability of Maggie’s and its trading subsidiary, Maggie’s Trading Limited.
We are seeking an outstanding Finance Director who will be a strategic partner to the Chief Executive, Board and Executive Leadership Team. The successful candidate will bring a distinguished track record of senior financial leadership in a complex, multi‑stakeholder organisation, with the judgement and credibility to translate strategy into resilient financial plans and provide clear, independent advice on performance, choices and risk.
Leading financial planning, reporting, control, treasury, investment, tax, risk and assurance across the group, you will ensure that resources are allocated transparently and effectively, with a clear link between expenditure, activity, outcomes and organisational impact. You will oversee robust budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow planning, statutory reporting and audit, while maintaining strong governance, internal controls and regulatory compliance.
You will also take executive responsibility for the financial management and oversight of Maggie’s Trading Limited, ensuring that it remains aligned with Maggie’s charitable objectives, delivers value and does not expose charitable assets or reputation to inappropriate risk. Alongside this, you will provide rigorous financial appraisal for new centres, property projects, major maintenance, partnerships and other strategic investments, supporting Maggie’s sustainable growth while protecting the quality of its support and visitor experience.
Thriving in a purpose‑led and evolving environment, you will combine strategic vision with operational excellence. You will be confident challenging assumptions, making sound decisions under pressure and communicating complex financial matters with clarity to both financial and non‑financial audiences. Your ability to build trust, strengthen organisational capability and lead a high‑performing, service‑focused finance function will be key to your success.
You will be a qualified accountant with current membership of a recognised UK professional body, such as ICAEW, ICAS, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA. We welcome applications from exceptional finance leaders across the charity, public, healthcare, private and other purpose‑led sectors who are committed to the responsible stewardship of charitable funds and share Maggie’s ambition to make a lasting difference for people affected by cancer.
