Please note that this is a part-time position and the salary will be pro-rata to reflect the number of hours.

As a Cancer Support Specialist within Maggie’s, you will actively support centre visitors to understand and articulate their cancer-related concerns.

Through ongoing work with individuals, families, and groups, you will help them engage with and utilize Maggie’s psychosocial support programmes.

This involves ensuring visitors feel welcome, valued, and that their concerns are heard and understood, creating and maintaining ongoing relationships, and facilitating exploration of Maggie’s support offerings.

Please note that interviews will be held on 1st September at Maggie\’s Cardiff.

Key responsibilities

  • Leading delegated aspects of an integrated cancer support programme.
  • Elliciting cancer-related concerns and emotional states, providing clinical and emotional support (up to Level 3 psychological support).
  • Liaising with colleagues for appropriate referrals and support use.
  • Leading psychosocial and psychoeducational components, including relaxation and stress management programs and facilitating network groups.
  • Raising awareness and enabling access to Maggie’s Centre.
  • Seeking advice and supervision, especially with complex cases.

Skills, knowledge, and expertise

  • Having a nursing degree (or equivalent), current registration, and at least three years of post-qualification experience in oncology nursing or related fields.
  • A postgraduate qualification is advantageous.
  • Experience in providing person-focused care and working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Broad, up-to-date clinical knowledge in cancer care, with strong interpersonal skills for assessing needs and concerns.
  • Well-organized, emotionally sensitive, resilient, and capable of managing emotionally intense work.
