The UX Researcher focuses on immersing in, understanding and documenting the mindsets, motivations and behaviours of our customers so that our teams can make better decisions. As the dedicated UXR at Magentus, you will take the lead with formalising processes, recommending best practices and helping shape the role alongside Product Designers, Product Managers and the Customer Experience teams. Our UX Researcher will inspire better strategic decision making by delivering compelling presentations and insights based on customer research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Subject matter expert for UX Research in the business
  • Study customers and customer groups to uncover problems, design opportunities, realistic context and other valuable information to inform product strategy
  • Contribute to identifying / validating new strategic opportunities for the business based on research findings
  • Adopt a variety of research methods as appropriate based on project requirements and user recruitment constraints
  • Work closely with Customer Support, Marketing and Product Delivery departments to keep the voice of the customer present in decision making and provide expert advice on how to validate assumptions
  • Create low-fidelity visualisations of user journeys, mental models and information architecture using storyboards, user flows and sitemaps
  • Document and present insights clearly to internal teams, mindful to the needs of different audiences
  • Design and distribute periodic customer surveys
  • Own and manage repository of qualitative research data
  • Synthesise quantitative feature release feedback
  • Drive and coordinate 1-on-1 and group interviews that engage with customers
  • Establish, develop and maintain relationships with team
  • Develop and maintain strong operational relationships and utilise feedback from internal and external stakeholders

This role may include travel to our client sites; therefore, flexibility and the ability to travel as required is essential.

Required Experience:

  • University degree in interaction design, psychology, human factors or a research related subject area is preferential
  • In the absence of official qualifications, we’re open to candidates that can demonstrate real-world application of design research methodologies and deep knowledge of the theoretical side
  • Experience in applied product research, preferably for a commercial B2B or SaaS company.
  • Experience with design research – utilising various methods including but not limited to usability studies, contextual inquiry and surveys.
  • Experience with Design Thinking preferred but not essential
  • Technology and/or health Industry experience is a plus

  • Research methods: Familiarity with qualitative or quantitative user research such as contextual enquiries, ethnography, benchmarking, card sorting, group moderation, or survey design.
  • Understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during the product development process.
  • Synthesis: strong skills in analysis and drawing relevant insights from research
  • Communication: strong and compelling written and verbal communication skills to share insights creatively and persuasively - both in an individual and group setting
  • Strategic mindset to understand interplay between user needs and business needs.
  • User Testing: (as part of research) organising and leading user testing sessions, from recruiting users, to conducting sessions and incorporating learnings into research data
  • Prototyping: Experience with Figma (not essential)
  • Excellent communication skills, resourcefulness and troubleshooting
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities
