Magellan Aerospace, Llay Wrexham has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Manufacturing Engineer - Configuration. This is a full-time, permanent position (39 hours per week) located in Llay, Wrexham, LL12 0PB. The site is unionised and works in partnership with Unite the Union.
Management of a team in support of all Magellan sites in configuration management and data control includes:
- Maintaining the Bills of Material and change management of spares supporting a fluctuating manufacturing and assembly rate aligned to full rate production in various company ERP systems.
- Participating in Change Control Boards and Technical Review Boards to identify change requirements and associated impacts.
- Managing the ‘As Maintained’ Bills of Material and associated changes to enable accurate and reliable information transfer to various programs in support of customer demands.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Assists in preparing quotations, planning, and implementing tasks.
- Acts as the point of contact for all technical input into the ERP system.
- Responsible for establishing feasible solutions to design and engineering problems where precedence does not exist.
- Manages the change board and all people involved within the board.
- Ensures all aspects of the contract review are adhered to in order to support customer expectations.
- Manages the generation of shop floor documentation and its maintenance and changes.
- Manages the configuration team, ensuring all tasks and documentation are in place as per company schedules.
- Helps and advises Engineering Colleagues with engineering queries and changes through the works query note process.
- Assists Engineering colleagues with the development of new parts and product introduction through data evaluation.
- Manages electronic data transfer and data management between Magellan, customers, and suppliers.
- Ensures all standards and procedures are adhered to.
- Manages the first article proving of all data and support documentation in a production environment.
- Trains operational personnel in the use of new standards and procedures, including VA’s and routings.
- Liaises with external customers to develop best practices in line with product requirements.
Position Requirements:
- Academic: HNC / Degree in relevant discipline.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of production and engineering experience in an aerospace environment.
- Essential: CAD Experience in Catia V5, use of ERP systems, experience of configuration and change management, experience of controlling/managing engineering change on a complex programme.
Key Competencies:
- Knowledge of GD&T/SPC techniques.
- Must be computer literate and have a working knowledge of company systems.
- Sound knowledge of multi-discipline engineering practices, processes, and procedures.
- Ability to interrogate aircraft geometry in Catia based upon multi-customer requirements.
- Ability to work with legacy data sets.
- Creation and maintenance of bills of materials.
- Outstanding organisational skills and tenacity to drive the process of configuration control from start to finish.
- Exceptional attention to detail is paramount for the successful execution of this role.
- Sound knowledge of aerospace materials treatments and standard hardware.
- Sound knowledge of EASA Part 21 and Airworthiness publications.
Other Skills/Abilities:
- Skills: Good practical co-ordination skills, good understanding of spoken and written English.
- Abilities: Ability to work using own initiative, manage and lead a small team, manage and direct multidiscipline teams.
