Magellan Aerospace, Llay Wrexham has an exciting opportunity for a Skilled CNC Machinist. This is a full-time, permanent position with a shift role, including days and nights. The job location is Llay, Wrexham, LL12 0PB. We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to manufacture precision aircraft components using advanced 3, 5, and 6-axis CNC machining centers.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC machines to produce high-quality aerospace parts in compliance with engineering drawings, working to tight tolerances and industry standards. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in a regulated aerospace manufacturing environment.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Set up, operate, and monitor 3, 5, and 6 axis CNC machines to manufacture precision aircraft components.
- Responsible for machining components to specification and customer requirements using detailed drawings and layouts.
- Ensure tooling is fit for purpose and advise on or change them when necessary.
- Maintain metal working fluid levels and dispose of them as per company guidelines.
- Set up the correct tools and components according to approved layouts and load the correct programme into the machine.
- Report all component/machine non-conformances using the appropriate forms to the Team Leader or Quality Inspector.
- Complete new product introduction on machines – proving out (with engineering).
- Ensure all measuring equipment is calibrated.
- Inspect parts to confirm conformity to the approved check sheets and ensure job card adherence.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment by actively practicing 6S standards.
- Comply with relevant Environment, Health and Safety legislation and company policies.
- Identify and report safety hazards, quality issues, and process deviations.
- Minimize scrap, rework, and machine downtime by following standardized work and preventive maintenance routines.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve processes, tooling, and cycle times.
- Accurately document production data, inspection results, and nonconformance information.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including kaizen activities and root cause analysis.
- Conduct PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) checks on machines.
- Undertake necessary training both in line with company policy and “on the job”.
Position Requirements:
- NVQ level 3 Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering – CNC Machining or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years experience on 3 and 5 axis CNC machines.
- Able to identify components and select the correct tooling/jigging media.
- Proficiency with precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, plug gauges).
- GCSE or equivalent including maths & English.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand customer specifications, drawings, and visual aids.
- This role requires you to be able to lift parts onto machine fixtures up to 10kg.

- Sinumerik – 828, 840, Solution Line, ONE.
- Fanuc.
- Heidenhain.
- SAP or other ERP experience.
- Crane license.
- Pedestrian forklift licence.
- Manual machine experience.
