Magellan Aerospace, Llay Wrexham has an exciting opportunity for Skilled CNC Machinist.
Location: Llay, Wrexham, LL12 0PB. Shift role, including days and nights. Full time, permanent position. Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor 3, 5, and 6 axis CNC machines to manufacture precision aircraft components.
- Machining components to specification and customer requirements using detailed drawings and layouts with tight tolerances.
- Ensure tooling is fit for purpose and advise on or change them when necessary.
- Maintain metalworking fluid levels and dispose of them per company guidelines.
- Load correct programs, ensure correct tools and components per approved layouts; maintain concentration and attention to detail.
- Report all component/machine non-conformances to the Team Leader or Quality Inspector.
- Competent in completing new product introduction on machines – proving out (with engineering).
- Ensure calibrations of measuring equipment.
- Inspect parts for conformity to approved check sheets and job cards.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment following 6S standards.
- Follow processes and procedures to perform tasks efficiently and to the required quality standard.
- Comply with Environment, Health and Safety legislation and company policies.
- Identify and report safety hazards, quality issues, and process deviations; participate in corrective and preventive actions.
- Minimize scrap, rework, and machine downtime; follow standardized work, preventive maintenance, and cost-control initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve processes, tooling, and cycle times while maintaining on-time delivery.
- Document production data, inspection results, and nonconformance information for traceability and audits.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including kaizen and root cause analysis.
- Conduct Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) checks on machines.
- Undertake necessary training in line with company policy and on-the-job.
- Other reasonable requests as asked.
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential Criteria:
- NVQ level 3 Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering – CNC Machining or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years experience on 3 and 5 axis CNC machines.
- Ability to identify components and select correct tooling/jigging media and perform operations per routing and drawings.
- Proficiency with precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, plug gauges).
- GCSE or equivalent including maths & English.
- Good verbal and written communication.
- Ability to read and understand customer specifications, drawings and visual aids.
- Ability to lift parts onto machine fixtures up to 10 kg.
Experience:
- Sinumerik – 828, 840, Solution Line, ONE.
- Fanuc.
- Heidenhain.
- SAP or other ERP experience.
- Crane license.
- Pedestrian forklift licence.
- Manual machine experience.
