Magellan Aerospace Blackpool has an exciting opportunity for a Nightshift Process Engineer.

  • Full Time Permanent Contract
  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday – Thursday 19.00pm-05.00am
  • Job location: Blackpool Business Park, Amy Johnson Way, Blackpool, FY4 2RP
  • Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.
  • This role is governed by ITAR, restrictions may apply

To actively provide nightshift support of the manufacturing processes including playing a key role in problem solving production issues, providing technical knowledge to machine operators and supporting the achievement of KPI’s within the Production department. This role whilst based on nightshift, will be a point of liaison between production, the production engineers, engineering and quality as required and will lead the roll-out of any progression and development training to the nightshift operators.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Ensure any issues raised at MRB on day shift are fully communicated and investigated with relevant night shift personnel. Completion of accurate NCR information.
  • Identify support requirements on both a short, medium or long-term basis and relay information back to production, quality and engineering and produce full documented reports of any issues to hand over to dayshift for further investigation.
  • Utilise extensive machining knowledge to actively support any machine tool issues that arise on shift and if required engage with machine tool suppliers to resolve. Produce full documented report of any issues to be able to hand over to day shift maintenance.
  • Support any tooling issues and produce full documented report of any issues to be able to hand over to day shift. Liaise with Tooling Engineer and tooling suppliers as required.
  • Support the prove outs of NPI / optimisations and process improvements as requested and ensure full documented feedback for handover to day shift.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by keeping up to date with current and developing engineering processes and methods for continuing self-development.
  • Actively support reviewing engineering policies and procedures putting forward suggested improvements whilst ensuring these are being adhered to on the shop floor.
  • Provide input and technical knowledge in support of the introduction of new work packages and/or equipment for the site as required through feedback to Production Management.
  • Build good working relationships with production on all shifts to ensure all support requirements are met and support consistent approaches across the production team.
  • Fulfil training programs deemed necessary to allow efficient performance of duties and assist in your own personal development.
  • To take a responsible approach to health and safety, and environmental risks in relation to your own job role, and to control the risks or report them to management as appropriate.
  • Any other duties as required, commensurate with your job position.
  • Support MOS requirements.
  • Work in a safe manner in compliance with the company Health & Safety policy and procedures. Report and log Health & Safety incidents that occur.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by management in support of the business.

Skills / Knowledge Requirements.

Essential Criteria:

  • GCSE or equivalent including Maths & English.
  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • Must have completed a recognised apprenticeship
  • Must have in depth understanding of 3, 4, and 5 axis machining and turning. Must have core engineering competencies and knowledge
  • Ability to be able to fault find and recover issues with machine tools with minimal assistance particularly around SPF machines

Desirable criteria:

  • Minimum 5 years experience on shop floor or in an engineering role
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information
  • Aerospace experience would be an advantage
