Salary: GRADE 8, £18,694 – £24,363 per annum (£46,735 to £60,907 FTE), plus Oxford university Weighting £600 per annum (£1,500 FTE)

Magdalen College is seeking an experienced and energetic College Librarian to for 2 days per week for a job share with the current Librarian.

Magdalen is one of the largest colleges in Oxford with a very strong and exciting academic profile. The appointee will take shared responsibility for a library which is at the heart of the College’s academic life. It is the responsibility of the College Librarians to ensure the development, efficient organisation, smooth running and security of the libraries and archives. The appointee will be responsible for the College’s modern lending library, its rare book and manuscript collections and its rich archives and will lead a committed team of staff. They will want to run a responsive and friendly library which meets the needs of the College’s students, helps to project the College’s lively intellectual atmosphere, and engages with alumni and researchers at national and international levels.

Applicants should have a good undergraduate honours degree; professional library qualifications; extensive library experience, preferably in an academic library, and including experience of working with collections of manuscripts and early printed books; very good experience and knowledge of library systems, especially IT systems, cataloguing software, acquisitions, circulation, cataloguing, and serials; a good understanding of electronic information resources and digital media more generally; ability to lead and manage a small team and to manage budgets; a readiness to contribute to, and enjoy, the wider intellectual and social life of Magdalen; initiative, energy, and enthusiasm.
