The role
The Water Quality Technician is responsible for carrying out water quality monitoring, inspections and first-line maintenance activities across East Midlands Airport’s surface water drainage and containment assets.
Duties include
- Supporting the safe and compliant operation of the airport’s surface water systems, helping to minimise environmental risk and maintain asset serviceability
- Ensuring water quality standards and environmental controls are effectively managed.
- Undertaking planned and reactive first-line maintenance on surface water assets, including ponds, penstocks, pumps, monitoring equipment, containment systems and associated ancillary equipment.
- Carrying out routine inspections of surface water drainage, containment and discharge systems, identifying defects, operational issues, pollution risks or asset condition concerns.
- Completing daily pond inspections and reporting during the winter period, by conducting risk-based inspections and regular monitoring
- Carrying out water quality testing using handheld equipment and supporting formal laboratory sampling requirements.
- Completing water quality sampling at throughout the winter and summer.
- Supporting the operation of surface water containment and discharge systems to help minimise the risk of environmental consent breaches.
- Recording all maintenance, inspections, sampling and operational activity accurately within Maximo or other MAG-approved systems.
What will make you successful in the role?
- Proven ability to carry out first-line maintenance, inspections and minor repairs to a high standard.
- Experience working in a similar role within a large commercial, industrial or operational environment.
- Practical understanding of surface water drainage assets, including ponds, lagoons, pumps, valves, penstocks and monitoring equipment.
- Ability to complete water quality sampling, field testing and routine inspections in line with agreed procedures.
- Basic understanding of SCADA or similar control and monitoring systems.
- Good awareness of health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Valid drivers license, able to drive manual as well as automatic
