The role drives the strategic implementation of fire safety measures, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and alignment with the MAG Fire Safety Framework Standards while fostering a proactive safety culture. It aims to minimise fire-related risks, protect all airport users, and support operational resilience through expert guidance and collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders. The role encompasses the safety and welfare of all users of the airport, meeting statutory responsibilities, protecting the company’s interests, and reducing the costs and consequences of fire-related incidents.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Facilitating the management of Fire Safety and Risk by line management and third parties, through the timely provision of professional advice and training on statutory responsibilities, fire safety policy & procedures, and best practice.
- Providing proactive leadership and expert advice on Fire Safety to Airport Senior Managers including interpreting fire safety related law to ensure legal compliance, specifically the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
- Supporting the Head of Health Safety and Fire Safety in their interaction with MAG Group in the implementation of fire safety measures at divisional level.
- Maintaining, delivering and continuously improving a dynamic, risk-based, fire safety management system across the airport.
What will make you successful in the role?
- Degree or diploma (minimum Level 4) in Fire Safety Management related qualification or equivalent ideal or working towards.
- Membership of a professional body such as the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM), Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) or equivalent upon commencement.
- Extensive experience as a Fire Safety Professional or managing Fire safety in a large, busy operational environment, with transport/large places of assembly related experience desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of: Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, BS 9999, Building Regulations 2010 and Approved Documents applicable to fire safety.
- Practical knowledge of British Standards for fire safety.
- Experienced and competent fire risk assessor with knowledge of PAS 79.
- Strong ability to analyse information and to determine effective risk-based solutions.
- Ability to be able to formulate and deliver training in fire safety subjects.
- Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the business.
