Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company focused on delivering novel therapeutics for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a serious liver disease that can progress to cirrhosis, liver failure, need for liver transplantation and premature mortality. Region: London or North England (Yorkshire: Leeds, Sheffield, Hull; East Midlands: Nottingham; Northwest: Liverpool, Manchester).

Position: The Madrigal MSL / Senior MSL will build scientific partnerships with Healthcare Professionals, decision makers and broader stakeholders using evidence-based science and non-promotional scientific exchange. The MSL will serve as a point of contact for the latest scientific and clinical information on MASH and Madrigal’s novel research program to thought leaders, academic centres, healthcare organisations, regional professional organisations and patient associations in their region. The MSL will be the key individual responsible for sharing actionable insights within the UK and European medical affairs organisations, and will partner with cross-functional teams to help us better understand the MASH clinical care and diagnostic landscape as we build towards launch. In addition, the MSL will strategically support the development and utilisation of field medical materials that range from disease education and diagnostics through to the latest guidelines and scientific publications.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Identify, develop and maintain relationships with leading influential experts, key thought leaders (TLs) and health care professionals (HCPs) in relevant specialties or research centres.
  • Build peer to peer relationships with TLs and HCPs, including fostering cross-specialty collaboration.
  • Identify and engage key TLs, HCPs, and investigators in proactive scientific exchange on the disease landscape and reactive exchange on our clinical data.
  • Represent the company at local, national and international scientific congresses and professional society meetings.
  • Deep understanding of the steatotic liver disease area (MASLD/MASH), key stakeholders, and healthcare landscape (i.e. clinical care pathways, diagnostics, service design, therapeutics) in your region.
  • Support the execution of medical plans by representing Madrigal as the medical expert in MASH through scientific engagement with the medical community in Hepatology, Gastroenterology and Endocrinology / Diabetology.
  • Attend relevant scientific meetings & conferences and support the development of summaries of key data, presentations or symposia.
  • Insight gathering and sharing from field engagement with TLs/HCPs, healthcare organisations and broader stakeholders to support business strategy and decision making.
  • Collaborate with other internal team members (i.e., medical affairs, commercial, market access, clinical development) to contribute to the development of functional and organisational strategy.
  • Codesign and deliver scientific training of field, market access and commercial colleagues on disease, diagnostics, guidelines and therapies using approved materials.
  • Provide scientific expertise and support for speaker training & advisory boards as required.
  • Promptly respond to external inquiries and deliver appropriate clinical & scientific information.
  • Operate in a highly ethical manner and comply with all laws, regulations and policies.
  • Complete mandatory training in assigned timelines upon hire as well as when new policies, SOPs’, guidance are issued.
  • Adhere to internal standard processes and comply with regulatory & compliance requirements.
  • Practical knowledge of the ABPI Code of Practice, clinical research procedures and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 3+ years medical field experience (MSL or similar).
  • Advanced degree in healthcare or science-related area of study (e.g., MSc, PharmD, PhD, MD) or other life sciences or equivalent with solid medical/technical background.
  • Hepatology, Gastroenterology or Metabolic Medicine experience strongly preferred.
  • Field experience of launching innovative medicines strongly preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of MASH disease area and UK healthcare systems preferred.
  • Ability to function well, both independently and within a team setting, in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Team orientated and ability to work collaboratively towards common objectives.
  • Ability to exhibit an entrepreneurial mindset and proactive approach, demonstrating ownership, adaptability to change, and effectiveness within a rapidly growing organisational environment.
  • Ability to deeply understand and convey emergent scientific information.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including communication, presentation, persuasion, and influence.
  • Proficiency with technology – computers, video conferencing, key software (e.g., Microsoft Office, CRM tools).
  • Willing to be externally facing in-person for field medical engagements, including international travel for scientific meetings.
  • Fluent in English.
