Madisons Recruitmentare seeking an organised and commercially focused Buyer to join our procurement team. This role is key to ensuring the effective sourcing, negotiation, and supply of materials and services across a diverse range of construction projects. The successful candidate will play an integral part in maintaining strong supplier relationships, achieving cost efficiency, and supporting the delivery of projects on time and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end procurement of materials, plant, and subcontract services to meet project requirements.
- Identify, assess, and build relationships with new and existing suppliers to ensure reliability, quality, and value for money.
- Negotiate and agree terms, pricing, and delivery schedules with suppliers to secure competitive and compliant agreements.
- Place and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of goods and services.
- Support project teams with procurement schedules and updates on supplier performance.
- Monitor supplier compliance with contractual terms, health & safety, and sustainability standards.
- Assist with forecasting demand, monitoring stock levels, and managing lead times to avoid project delays.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, including purchase orders, contracts, and supplier databases.
- Work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Site Managers, and Project Managers to align procurement activities with project budgets and timelines.
- Contribute to cost-saving initiatives and continuous improvement in procurement processes.
- Stay up to date with market trends, material availability, and legislation affecting procurement and supply chains.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a buying, procurement, or supply chain role within construction (preferred) or a related industry.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills with the ability to build effective supplier relationships.
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of construction materials, subcontract services, and plant hire.
- Proficiency in MS Office, with experience using procurement or ERP software an advantage.
- Highly organised, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple procurement activities simultaneously.
- Team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
- Full UK driving licence.
