We are seeking confident, reliable and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to work in secondary schools across St Albans and the surrounding areas.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about education and enjoy working with young people.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of the class teacher, ensuring that students remain engaged with the work that has been set while maintaining a positive and productive learning environment.
This role is ideal for aspiring teachers, graduates or experienced education professionals looking to further their careers within schools.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise classes in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
- Deliver pre-prepared lesson plans and ensure students remain focused on learning.
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy.
- Support students in completing classwork and encourage positive engagement.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment.
- Record attendance and report any concerns or incidents to teaching staff.
- Provide feedback to teachers regarding student participation, behaviour and lesson outcomes.
- Support students with additional learning needs where appropriate.
- Assist with the smooth running of the school day, including break duties where required.
- Follow school safeguarding, health and safety and behaviour policies at all times.
- Build positive relationships with students, teachers and wider school staff.
- Attend training and professional development opportunities where appropriate.
- Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working with young people in a school, youth work, coaching or similar environment is desirable.
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
- Confidence in leading groups of students independently.
- A calm, adaptable and professional approach.
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people's education and development.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
