We are seeking an experienced Legal Accounts Assistant to join our growing legal practice and support the day-to-day financial management of the business, with a particular focus on Conveyancing. This is an exciting opportunity to join a modern forward-thinking firm focused on delivering exceptional client service.

Working closely with the Director of Finance, you will play a key role in managing both client and office accounts, ensuring compliance with Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules, and support the wider financial operations of the practice. This is a varied and hands-on position suited to someone with previous legal finance or accounts experience who is looking to further develop their career within a collaborative and growing business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client & Legal Accounts
    • Manage daily client account transactions in line with SRA Accounts Rules
    • Perform daily and monthly reconciliations of client account ledgers
    • Monitor and maintain accurate client balances, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly
    • Process client billing, completion statements, transfers, and financial queries
    • Ensure accurate record keeping and maintenance of legal accounting documentation
  • Business Finance Support
    • Support day-to-day office account operations including payments, banking, and reconciliations
    • Process supplier invoices, expenses, and payment runs
    • Assist with payroll, VAT administration, and month-end finance processes
    • Maintain accurate financial records and support management reporting requirements
  • Compliance & Reporting
    • Support compliance with SRA Accounts Rules and internal financial controls
    • Assist with audit preparation and liaise with external auditors where required
    • Help identify and improve finance processes and procedures
    • Support the preparation of financial reports and information for senior management
  • Administration & Team Support
    • Work closely with conveyancing and operational teams to support client matters
    • Act as a point of contact for finance-related queries from internal and external stakeholders
    • Assist with general finance and administrative duties across the practice
    • Contribute to a professional, organised, and efficient working environment
  • Finance Administration & Month-End Support
    • Support month-end close processes including journals and reconciliations
    • Assist with accruals, prepayments, and basic balance sheet reconciliations
    • Maintain accurate and well-organised financial records for audit purposes
    • Support management accounts preparation as required

Required Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience in legal accounts, finance, or bookkeeping required
  • Working knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and reconciliations
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Confident communicator with the ability to work across teams
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Experience using legal accounting systems, Xero, or QuickBooks beneficial
  • Proactive, reliable, and able to manage workloads effectively in a fast-paced environment

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience supporting residential or auction conveyancing teams
  • Familiarity with CQS (Conveyancing Quality Scheme) standards
  • Experience with SRA file audits or compliance preparation
  • Comfortable working in an innovative, digitally-enabled, and client-centric culture

Remuneration & Benefits

  • Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • Working hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 18:00
  • 20 days annual leave plus public holidays
  • Birthday gifted as day off and discretionary Christmas closure
