We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to support the delivery of a secure government project based at Erlestoke House, Devizes. The successful candidate will lead design coordination and assurance activities across complex civil and infrastructure packages within a Ministry of Justice (MoJ) environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned Design Manager with a strong technical background in civils, infrastructure, and secure facility construction to join a long-term, high-security scheme. Candidates must hold or be eligible for advanced security clearance and live within one hour of the project location.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design management function from pre-construction through delivery, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with MoJ standards.
- Oversee all design coordination between consultants, subcontractors, and internal engineering teams.
- Review and manage drawings, design packages, and technical submittals for accuracy, compliance, and buildability.
- Chair and document design coordination, risk, and technical workshops.
- Support value engineering and design development in line with programme and cost objectives.
- Ensure design information is issued in accordance with construction sequencing and procurement schedules.
- Liaise closely with the MoJ, client design teams, planning authorities, and statutory bodies.
- Monitor and manage design change, RFIs, and technical queries throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to quality assurance and maintain design records consistent with security and contractual obligations.
Requirements
- Minimum 8β10 yearsβ experience in design management for main contractors or D&B environments.
- Proven background working on MoJ, custodial, defence, or other secure government projects.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering and infrastructure design.
- Advanced Security Clearance (or ability to obtain prior to start).
- In-depth understanding of Building Regulations, CDM Regulations, and BIM coordination.
- Proficient in document control and design systems (e.g. Viewpoint, Aconex, BIM 360).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Degree or equivalent in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management.

- Must be based within one hour of Erlestoke House, SN10 5TU.
- Freelance contract with likely extension beyond initial 6 months.
