We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join a flagship £90M Design & Build science laboratory project in Bracknell. This is a long-term opportunity (circa 2 years) to work on a technically complex, high-spec development, requiring strong coordination across architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines. The role will involve managing the design process from pre-construction through delivery, ensuring compliance, coordination, and quality across all packages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the design process across all project stages (pre-construction through to completion)
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams including architects, consultants, and subcontractors
  • Ensure design outputs align with client requirements, programme, and budget
  • Manage design deliverables in line with RIBA stages and project milestones
  • Review and comment on design information to ensure buildability and compliance
  • Drive design coordination meetings and workshops
  • Oversee façade packages, with a focus on curtain walling and cladding systems
  • Identify and mitigate design risks and clashes
  • Ensure compliance with building regulations, standards, and project specifications
  • Liaise closely with site, commercial, and client teams

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager on large-scale construction projects
  • Strong background in Design & Build (D&B) projects
  • Experience working on laboratory, life sciences, or technically complex buildings (highly desirable)
  • Solid understanding of curtain walling and cladding systems
  • Experience managing design through RIBA Stages 3–5+
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple design packages simultaneously

Desirable

  • Previous experience on science, pharmaceutical, or cleanroom environments
  • Familiarity with BIM and common design platforms
  • Relevant construction or design-related qualification
