Location: Queen Victoria Hospital East Grinstead, RH19 3DZ, Sussex

Shift Patterns:

  • Full-Time Position: Monday to Sunday shift pattern available, Day shifts: 07:00 - 19:00, Average: 72 hours per week
  • Part-Time Position: Flexible shifts available (days & nights), 12-hour shifts, Must be flexible to cover both day and night shifts

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a professional and approachable security presence at all times
  • Carry out internal and external patrols across the hospital site
  • Monitor CCTV systems in compliance with GDPR regulations
  • Control access and prevent unauthorised entry
  • Respond to alarms, incidents, and emergency situations
  • Assist with evacuations and liaise with emergency services when required
  • Complete incident reports and maintain accurate records
  • Conduct searches where required in line with procedures
  • Manage keys, passes, and access control systems
  • Support staff, patients, and visitors with guidance and assistance
  • Ensure fire exits and safety equipment are maintained and accessible
  • Handle disruptive behaviour and escort individuals off-site if necessary

Security Operations & Patrols:

  • Car Park Patrols: Hourly checks for safety, parking compliance, and hazards
  • Perimeter Patrols: Every 2 hours to monitor access points and boundaries
  • Internal Patrols (Night): Every 3 hours across wards and restricted areas
  • Emergency Response: Immediate response to alarms or incidents

Car Park Duties:

  • Direct traffic during busy periods
  • Maintain clear access for emergency vehicles
  • Monitor and report unsafe or illegal parking
  • Assist vulnerable or disabled visitors
  • Report damage, theft, or maintenance issues

Lock-Up & Unlock Duties:

  • Officers are responsible for securing and opening key areas across the hospital site, including:
  • Nightly lock-up of departments, gates, entrances, and restricted zones
  • Daily unlocking of access points (typically from 05:30 hrs)
  • Ensuring compliance with weekend and Bank Holiday procedures

Essential Requirements:

  • Valid SIA Licence (Door Supervisor or Security Guarding)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Flexible and reliable approach to shift work
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physically able to carry out patrol duties

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or hospital environment
  • First Aid qualification
  • Experience using CCTV and access control systems
