MadiganGill are looking for an experienced Carpenter to join a college in Cinderford, GL14, helping to teach and mentor Carpentry apprentices. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Carpenter who wants to move away from full-time site work and pass their knowledge, skills and experience on to the next generation. You do not need a teaching qualification to apply. We will support you through the relevant qualification to teach in Further Education, and we will arrange the required DBS checks.

The Role:

  • Teaching and mentoring Carpentry apprentices
  • Delivering classroom-based and practical carpentry training
  • Sharing your knowledge and experience from working on construction sites
  • Delivering a structured scheme of work
  • Teaching apprentices how classroom theory applies to real site situations
  • Supporting practical training and development
  • Teaching safe working practices and construction health & safety
  • Helping apprentices develop their carpentry and joinery skills
  • Teaching construction methods, materials and correct use of tools and equipment
  • Supporting apprentices with measuring, setting out, cutting and installation
  • Helping apprentices understand drawings, specifications and construction techniques

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong Carpentry background and genuine construction site experience
  • Good knowledge of carpentry and joinery techniques
  • Experience working with a range of tools, materials and construction methods
  • Someone who can confidently pass their knowledge and experience on to young people
  • Good communication and people skills
  • Patient, approachable and confident personality
  • Ability to deliver a structured scheme of work
  • Previous teaching, training, mentoring or supervisory experience would be an advantage
  • Teaching qualification desirable but not essential

Carpentry experience is more important than teaching experience. We are looking for someone with the practical knowledge and personality to teach apprentices what working on a real construction site is actually like.
