MADE Careers is partnering with a leading international architecture and design practice looking to appoint a Director of International Business Development.

Working closely with the Group Chair and senior leadership, this person will take a strategic role in developing the practice’s international business, identifying where the strongest opportunities lie, building senior client relationships and helping convert those relationships into new and repeat work.

With an established presence across a number of international markets, the focus is not simply on opening doors. It’s about bringing greater structure to how opportunities are identified and pursued, connecting relationships and market intelligence across the business, and working with regional and sector leaders to build a stronger international pipeline.

The Role

Working across new markets, existing growth regions and key global sectors, you’ll help identify where the practice should focus its business development activity and build the relationships needed to support long term growth.

You’ll develop relationships with clients, developers, institutional partners, consultants and other key industry contacts, while working closely with regional and sector leadership to identify opportunities, strengthen existing accounts and connect relationships across the wider international business.

Alongside relationship development, you’ll bring together client and market intelligence from across the practice and work with Bid and Communications teams on the strategy behind priority pursuits, pitches and major opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Group Chair and senior leadership to develop international business development priorities
  • Research and assess new markets and identify areas with genuine potential for growth
  • Develop existing growth markets through relationship building and opportunity identification
  • Build senior relationships with clients, developers, institutional partners, consultants and industry contacts
  • Work alongside global sector and regional leaders to identify and develop new business opportunities
  • Grow key client accounts and increase repeat and cross-sector work
  • Connect client relationships, market intelligence and opportunities across international studios
  • Develop strategic partnerships within priority markets
  • Support the practice’s positioning within key sectors and markets
  • Work with Bid and Communications teams to develop win strategies for priority opportunities
  • Contribute to major pitches, bids and client presentations
  • Improve the use of CRM, client intelligence and opportunity tracking across the business
  • Develop a strategic approach to international events, networking and follow up

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong experience in international business development within architecture, design, property or the wider built environment
  • A good understanding of how architecture and design practices develop and win work
  • Experience building senior client relationships and developing new opportunities
  • A strong network across relevant international markets, sectors or client groups
  • Commercially minded, with good judgement around where to focus time and investment
  • Comfortable working closely with senior leadership, regional teams and sector leads
  • Experience contributing to major bids, pitches and work-winning strategy
  • Able to bring together market intelligence and relationships from across a wider business
  • Strong communicator and natural relationship builder
  • Collaborative and comfortable working across different studios, regions and cultures
  • A genuine understanding of architecture and design and how strong design positioning supports business development

Why This Role

This is a senior international business development role with direct access to the leadership of an established global design practice, but with plenty still to build.

There is already a large international footprint, client base and network to work with. The opportunity is to bring those pieces together more effectively - developing new relationships, growing existing accounts and creating a clearer route from market intelligence through to winning work.

Success will be measured through pipeline growth, improved conversion, repeat work, stronger key accounts and greater collaboration between regions and studios.
