We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Test Technician to join our Test Department, reporting directly to the Test Supervisor. This is a hands-on, shop floor–based role where you will play a key part in delivering safe, efficient and right-first-time test operations across a range of complex hydraulic and electrical systems.

This position offers the opportunity to take technical ownership of test activities, provide leadership to Test Fitters and Apprentices, and work closely with Engineering and Planning teams to ensure the highest standards of quality, safety and performance are achieved.

As a Test Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out test activities in accordance with engineering instructions and approved procedures. You will act as a key technical link between Engineering and the shop floor, ensuring test requirements are fully understood, documented and delivered.

Success in this role will be measured by:

  • Safe execution of all allocated tasks
  • Efficient, right-first-time testing
  • Strong technical leadership and collaboration
  • Adherence to quality standards and documentation processes
  • Proactive engagement in continuous improvement initiatives

You will also support the development of test processes, specifications and documentation, working alongside the Test Engineering team and Acceptance & Test Manager to maintain the highest operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and performing hydraulic and functional testing activities
  • Ensuring all test procedures are documented, maintained and adhered to
  • Acting as liaison between Engineering and shop floor teams
  • Extracting functional requirements from engineering data to support development and installation of test equipment
  • Accurately completing all route cards and Test Instruction Sheets (T.I.S.)
  • Supporting efficiency, quality and cost-reduction initiatives
  • Assisting in trials for new processes and improvements
  • Promoting and maintaining strong health & safety standards
  • Supporting apprentices and fitters with technical guidance

You are technically capable, detail-oriented and motivated to deliver excellence. You enjoy working with minimal supervision, taking ownership of tasks while supporting those around you. You communicate effectively at all levels and thrive in a collaborative engineering environment.

You understand the importance of safety, quality and security — particularly within defence environments — and approach your work with professionalism and integrity.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Traditional electrical engineering apprenticeship
  • HNC in Electrical Engineering or City & Guilds equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and equipment
  • Experience in pressure testing, functional testing and hydraulic flushing
  • Experience performing load testing on components and fabrications
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, hydraulic and electrical circuits
  • Experience working with DOL starters, star delta, soft starts and drives
  • Competent using MS Office (Excel & Word)
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail with ability to deliver high standards of workmanship
  • Self-motivated, flexible and proactive approach

Security Requirement: Due to the nature of our work, the successful candidate must satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements.

Desirable:

  • Experience using LabVIEW and Reactec software
  • IOSH qualification (or equivalent)
  • Advanced Excel capability (graphs and formulas)
