The Project Design Lead role itself is both strategic and operational, where you will:

  • Lead technical input and develop innovative engineering solutions across project phases including design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Ensure delivery of fit-for-purpose, robust outlines and detailed designs for infrastructure projects, focusing on lowest whole life costs (TotEx).
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams and external suppliers, fostering collaboration and ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulations.
  • Drive efficiency, manage design budgets, and oversee scope and change control processes.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement, including operational teams, contractors, and regulators, to embed sustainable and environmental considerations.
  • Take ownership of safety and environmental strategies, promoting a culture of safety across project activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, championing digital design concepts and industry best practices.

To be successful in this Project Design Lead role, you should possess:

  • Significant experience within water industry infrastructure programme delivery and project engineering.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with a track record of managing multiple projects and teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities, capable of articulating technical concepts clearly.
  • Relevant engineering qualification such as MEng, BEng, BSc, HND, or HNC in a related field.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institute (Chartered or working towards).
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater regulations, H&S standards, and risk management processes.
  • Familiarity with NEC or similar project contract management frameworks.

Desirable: APM Project Professional Qualification, Managing Successful Programmes, or similar accreditations.
