Social Sciences Books Intern

The Springer Nature Opening Doors internship is a paid opportunity in London for students and recent graduates to gain experience in research, education and science news publishing in our journals, books or magazines.

Many perspectives and lived experiences remain underrepresented in the publishing industry. The successful applicant will spend six months within the Social Sciences Books team, part of the Research Publishing division of Springer Nature. If selected for this internship, you will work closely with a team of acquisitions editors across the Social Sciences (fields including Sociology, Anthropology, Social Policy, Gender Studies, Migration Studies, Childhood and Family Studies, and Language and Linguistics), assisting in the management of our prestigious books programmes. Specific tasks may include:

• Assisting in the peer review process for new books
• Identification of potential authors and publishing opportunities (including use of data-driven tools to identify growth areas where there is a gap in the literature)
• Helping authors prepare manuscripts for production
• Ensuring information in databases is accurate and up-to-date
• Writing and editing marketing texts
• Attending internal and external meetings
• Related duties

About you:

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme, or a recent graduate preferably in a Social Sciences discipline
• Available to start at the beginning of June 2026 for an internship of six months
• Strong interest in books and/or research publishing
• Excellent communication and English language skills – both written and verbal
• Familiarity with MS office software would be a bonus (particularly Word, Outlook, Excel)
• Some office experience would be welcome but is not required
