About the role

You’ll lead risk management activity across grant-funding programmes, working with colleagues to c-develop, implement and embed our grants risk framework to ensure effective oversight and assurance across grant models, having designed the framework that ensures risks are consistently identified, assessed, managed and monitored. You’ll provide trusted advice and constructive challenge to help teams make sound, proportionate decisions about the risks associated with funding, while ensuring appropriate controls and mitigating actions are in place. You’ll identify opportunities to strengthen our approach, drive improvements and promote a positive risk culture that enables Macmillan to make informed decisions while protecting our resources, reputation and the people we support.

Alongside your grant-funding focus, you’ll contribute to organisation-wide risk management and assurance. You’ll coordinate corporate risk responsibilities within specific business areas and provide effective business partnering, bringing together insight from across Macmillan to identify emerging risks and opportunities. You’ll also play an important role in providing assurance to senior leaders and governance forums. You’ll produce clear, high-quality reporting for Finance, Risk and Audit Committee through organisational risk reporting to highlight emerging issues and support informed decision-making.

The role also includes supporting internal and external audits, coordinating evidence gathering, stakeholder engagement, action tracking and remediation. You’ll maintain oversight of Information Security risks and support Technology compliance with relevant legal, statutory and internal standards, including ISO 27001:2022.

About you

You’ll have strong experience in risk management, assurance and compliance, with the ability to translate risk frameworks into practical approaches that work across different parts of an organisation. Importantly, you’ll be comfortable working with complex programmes, with excellent stakeholder management skills, and ideally have experience of grant funding, third-party risk, programme risk in complex funding or partnership environments. You’ll be a confident business partner who can build trusted relationships while providing constructive challenge. You’ll know how to bring people with you, influence without relying on authority, work quickly and effectively and help teams develop their own confidence and capability in managing risk.

You’ll bring:

• Experience of designing, embedding and improving risk frameworks, ideally within grant funding or a comparable programme environment.
• Experience of identifying, assessing and managing risks, including developing effective mitigation and action plans.
• Experience of risk assurance and compliance, including supporting internal or external audits.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to work collaboratively across independent business functions in a matrix style environment.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear risk insight.
• Experience of delivering risk workshops and presenting information to varied audiences
• An understanding of community-led organisations and health systems and services in local settings
• Project management experience is desirable
• Risk management qualification is desirable but not essential
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, high-quality work.
• Experience of driving continuous improvement and strengthening risk capability.
• Knowledge of relevant standards and frameworks, including ISO 27001:2022 - including the delivery of ISO27001 audits
• A practical, proportionate approach to risk, with the confidence to balance risk and opportunity and promote a positive risk culture.
