Job Location: Hybrid to our London office - must be available to work on Wednesdays each week and be able to attend monthly in‑person team meetings in London on the 1st Wednesday of each month, as well as potential travel across the UK depending on the business needs.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join Macmillan's Centre of Clinical Expertise as a Clinical Fellow for Community Oncology.
Role Overview: One of Macmillan's significant programmes of work over the next 5 years is Neighbourhood Health Transformation with a view to better supporting people living with cancer outside of the acute setting. One element we want to explore further is how cancer specific services and support fit with Neighbourhood Models of working looking at the role of specialist clinicians, what can be delivered by the Primary and Community workforce and how services can be better integrated. Elements that we want to explore, but not exclusively, are how people can be supported closer to home while going through treatment by delivery of oncological treatment outside of the acute setting and how side effects of treatment can be safely and effectively managed outside of hospital, including when people become acutely unwell. The successful candidate will work with the Macmillan Centre of Clinical Expertise and external stakeholders to explore the potential for community oncological services, how this will fit with Neighbourhood ways of working and what the role of Macmillan could be in this area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver a defined programme of work focused on community oncology
- Generate insight into the experiences, outcomes and inequalities affecting people with cancer
- Map and assess exemplar services and models of care across the UK
- Develop practical tools and guidance to support clinicians (e.g. communication, consent, decision-making, future care planning)
- Build partnerships with wider system stakeholders and organisations
- Engage with clinicians, people with lived experience and carers to inform your work
- Influence national thinking and contribute to improving integrated pathways
- Produce high‑quality outputs including reports, resources and recommendations
- Represent Macmillan externally and contribute to wider clinical and system leadership work
Qualifications and Experience:
- Has a strong interest in how cancer services could be delivered outside of the hospital setting
- Has good working knowledge of the current Health and Social Care system and a strong understanding of the issues impacting people with cancer
- Has experience of clinical leadership, service improvement or system working
- Can work at a regional or national level and build effective professional networks
- Is passionate about tackling inequalities and improving patient and carer experience
- Has strong analytical, communication and organisational skills
- Is able to translate evidence and insight into a best practice guide from reviewing evidence from different approaches of community rehabilitation considering contemporary service models
- Influence care at a national level
