Overview

Maintenance Assistant role at Macklin Care Homes | Care Home Group in Northern Ireland. Location: Our Lady\'s Home, 68 Ard Na Va Road. This is a full-time permanent position (37.5 hours).

The successful candidate will be based in Our Lady\'s Care Home (Belfast) with occasional travel to other Macklin Group Care Homes. The role is 100% operational and requires a hands-on approach from the outset.

Salary advertised will be subject to skillset/experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Electrics, Plumbing, Joinery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Report to the Line Manager at the start of each shift to review prioritised repairs and ongoing general maintenance.
  • Maintain an environment to the highest standard, including repairing furniture, painting, hanging pictures, etc.
  • Inspect all hard surfaces on the front and back of the building and sweep debris, ensuring main entrances are free of leaves and other debris.
  • Maintain bins and bin compounds.
  • Carry out scheduled weekly, monthly and quarterly compliance checks.
  • Carry out Reactive Maintenance in a timely and safe manner, prioritising tasks to ensure a safe environment for residents and staff.
  • Ensure all equipment is used correctly and safely, according to manufacturer’s instructions; identify equipment under guarantee or on service contracts that must be serviced or repaired by a contractor.
  • Maintain hedges, gardens, flower beds, ashtray bins, and general upkeep of car park areas.
  • Perform tasks in compliance with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
  • Maintain training updates in Health & Safety and specialist Electrical Management with regular updates.
  • Maintain a courteous and professional attitude with all contacts encountered in the course of work.

Skills and Qualifications

Required Criteria

  • Full driving licence and access to own car for travel as required.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Maintenance experience in a similar role with hands-on experience.
  • Ability to work set hours, flexible to meet the needs of the organisation.
  • Eligibility to work and live in the UK.

Desired Criteria

  • General knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Previous experience undertaking PAT testing.
  • Electrician/Plumbing certificate.
  • Experience of medical equipment repairs and maintenance.
