Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Senior Buyer will be responsible for supporting the effective management of the Procurement Team, supply chain and ensuring that materials required for construction projects are provided to schedule and according to projected budgets.
Responsibilities
- Source new and/or alternative materials & suppliers.
- Meet with supplier representatives and negotiate rates.
- Maintain regular communication with all internal departments, in particular Contracts & Estimating.
- Assist the Buyers in procuring materials, services, plant & equipment from procurement schedules.
- Extract global material order requirements from tender information.
- Produce cost/value reports & life cycle costs for Senior Management.
- Arrange transfer of material/plant between sites/head office when necessary.
- Provide market competitive procurement solutions for the Company which demonstrate best overall value for money.
- Get quotations for specified materials & alternatives for estimators & negotiate for the best price.
- Assist the Procurement Manager in embedding sustainable procurement principles and practices.
- Assist with the day to day running of the Procurement Department & deputise for the Procurement Manager during their absence.
- Attend contract handover meetings.
- Ensure quotes comply with specifications and delivery requirements.
- Distribute copy orders & information to sites & others.
- Support the Procurement Manager with planning, organising & allocating work tasks.
- Assist the Procurement Manager in the training and development of team members, including apprentices.
