Our client is a major UK humanitarian organisation that coordinates nationwide fundraising appeals during global crises. They work collaboratively with partner agencies and supporters to maximise impact and ensure accountability and transparency in all activities.

The Role

This role leads the finance function, ensuring robust controls, accurate reporting, and strategic financial insight.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading financial processes, budgeting cycles, and management reporting
  • Ensuring compliance with charity accounting standards and donor regulations
  • Managing audits, annual accounts and tax compliance
  • Providing strategic financial analysis to senior leadership and governance groups
  • Deputising for the Director of Finance & Resources

Main Duties

  • Month-end and management accounts, forecasting and budget preparation
  • Cashflow, treasury oversight, Gift Aid claims and reconciliations
  • Drawdowns, payments and allocations to partner agencies
  • Regulatory reporting, statutory accounts and audit preparation
  • Preparing papers for finance committees and external membership groups

The Successful Candidate

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with senior leadership experience in the charity or NGO sector
  • Strong understanding of charity SORP, restricted funds management and donor compliance
  • Confident communicator able to translate financial insights for non-financial audiences
  • Ethical, adaptable, collaborative, and able to lead teams through periods of rapid activity

  • Location: London office (hybrid model with 2 mandatory office days/month)
  • 25 days’ annual leave (rising to 27 days after 3 years; 30 after 5) + bank holidays
  • Pension: 5% employee / 8% employer (post-probation)
