Job Description
MacKenzie King are working with a successful, growing business based in Woolpit to find an organised and proactive Credit Controller to join their supportive Accounts team. Previous experience working in a high-volume credit control department is essential as this position will be working as part of a small team handling credit control for locations across the UK, so being organised and used to managing a high-volume workload will also be essential. You will be responsible for chasing outstanding payments, running credit checks and screening for fraud risks, as well as collaborating with the depot manager.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Overseeing high-density day-to-day accounts receivable, tracking payments, and actively managing cash collections across multiple businesses.
- Credit Checking & Risk Management: Conducting rigorous credit evaluations on new and existing contractors, setting appropriate credit limits, monitoring transactions for red flags, and identifying potential invoice fraud or unusual payment behaviours.
- Partnering with Sales & Operations: Working hand-in-hand with our sales teams and depot managers to onboard new clients smoothly, balance risk with revenue goals, and resolve billing disputes quickly to keep cash moving while nurturing strong customer relationships.
- Streamlining Cash Flow: Minimising Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) and running regular aging and risk reports for senior leadership.
Qualifications and experience
- Proven experience managing high-volume credit control or accounts receivable, ideally within the construction or a related project-based industry.
- Strong expertise in credit checking, financial risk mitigation, and fraud detection.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven track record of partnering successfully with sales teams and depot managers to drive both collection and commercial success.
- Comfortable juggling high-volume ledgers and competing priorities across multiple business entities with solid Excel skills and a sharp eye for detail.
