We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our team in Scotland. The role will be primarily based in Inverness but may involve travel across other sites to support operations. This role reports directly to the Contracts Manager and is responsible for the management and delivery of multiple, ongoing contracts to the specified quality, the required programme and to the maximum commercial performance. You will manage all aspects of the project lifecycle ensuring contractual agreements comply with legal standards, project requirements and health & safety regulations. In addition, you will work with various stakeholders ensuring compliance with contract terms, negotiating contract conditions, and mitigating potential risks.

Key Accountabilities

  • Health & Safety (H&S)
    • Responsible for overall Health & Safety (H&S) on site treating this as a non-negotiable value on every level and ensuring this is central to all decision making.
    • Keep up to date with H&S matters and communicate policy and developments in this area.
    • Monitor and maintain all aspects of H&S on site such as safety of working equipment, Welfare facilities, PPE etc.
    • Report all accidents and near misses as per the current reporting procedure.
    • Assist with H&S investigations and utilise the disciplinary procedures in the event of a Health, Safety or Environmental breach.
  • Environmental
    • Responsible for ensuring sites comply with SEPA General Binding Rules.
    • Report all environmental incidents, near misses and hazards to the appropriate person.
    • Assisting with Investigations if required and utilise disciplinary procedures in the event of an Environmental breach.
  • Quality
    • Responsible for overall quality on site, implementing high-quality standards in line with company values and expectations.
    • Ensure Checklists are in place and completed as and when works are undertaken.
    • Carry out Contract Reviews at intervals as stated in the Contract Plan.
    • Ensure that the Inspection and Test Plan is in place.
  • Commercial
    • Manage project costs, maximizing value and minimizing wastage/delays.
    • Maintain client satisfaction throughout lifespan of project to try and build long term business partnerships to secure a prosperous future for the business.
    • Ensure plant & material sheets are being compiled weekly to an acceptable standard.
    • Produce comprehensive reports from Tender meetings and carry out handover with Estimating.
    • Compile sub-contracts in correct format prior to works commencing.
    • Review Drawings, update and identify anomalies.
    • Developing new clients as and when appropriate.
  • Demonstratable experience of successfully managing projects of value up to £1.5 million.
  • Knowledge of roles within the CDM regulations, Client, Principle Designer and Principle Contractor.
  • Programme and Risk Management and cost control including forecasting, actual cost and red cost reporting.
  • Good knowledge of specifications and testing regime relevant to general Civil Engineering.
  • Must have full understanding and knowledge of the principles of setting out, may be called upon to carry out setting out. Datum level and fully “coordinated “Survey Equipment.
  • Leadership
    • Delegating Tasks.
    • Coaching/ Mentoring.
    • Managing Performance and reporting on any issues.
    • Staff Training Plans.
  • Information Security
    • Complying with the Security Policy and associated procedures.
    • Protecting information for which they are responsible.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience in Civil Engineering.
  • Degree/HNC/HND/SVQ level 4 with the principal subject in either Civil, Building Construction or Construction Management.
  • Excellent Communication Skills.
  • Strong Leadership Skills.
  • Excellent Attention to Detail.
  • Complex Problem Solving Skills.
  • Strong IT Skills including MS Office and MS Project.
  • Knowledge of NEC Contract Conditions.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 2 or more years’ experience as a Site Agent.
  • CSCS Managers card.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS.

Additional Requirements:

  • May be required to work away from home visiting sites.
  • May be required to work occasional overtime/weekends as required to carry out the works.
