We are seeking a skilled and motivated class teacher to cover a maternity leave at Kemball School, a day special school for pupils with cognitive and learning difficulties.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a class of pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex medical and physical needs using an adapted, individualised curriculum.
  • Apply knowledge of EYFS/Key Stage 1 where appropriate and contribute to a multisensory pathway to fully support pupils’ needs.
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional development by attending relevant courses and implementing new initiatives.
  • Collaborate with a dedicated team to deliver daily maths, English, Read Write Inc phonics/spelling interventions, and writing/reading interventions alongside planned topics.
  • Engage in safeguarding practices in line with Kemball School requirements and OCT policies.

Qualifications

  • Experience or strong interest in teaching pupils with special educational needs, particularly those with complex needs.
  • Knowledge or willingness to develop expertise in an EYFS/KS1 primary curriculum and multisensory teaching approaches.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and CPD opportunities.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and ability to meet safeguarding requirements.

Kemball School is a day special school with around 225 pupils (age 3-19). The vacancy is within the progression pathway. The school outlines its safeguarding expectations and the role includes involvement in interviews, observations, and pathway discussions during the selection process. Closing date: 4 June. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to observe the class and discuss the role with the Pathway Lead. Further information is available on the Kemball School website and OCT site. It is an offence to apply for this position if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity. A copy of the safeguarding policy is available for review. This position is subject to a DBS check as part of the recruitment process. Applicants from ECT candidates with relevant special school experience are welcome.
