The Opportunity
We're recruiting for a Commercial Assistant Accountant to join a well-established business in Northampton on a temporary-to-permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional looking to develop their commercial accounting experience within a supportive and collaborative team. Working closely with senior finance stakeholders and operational teams, you'll play a key role in producing meaningful financial information, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and helping drive informed business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities.
- Produce and analyse commercial reports, highlighting trends and variances.
- Prepare month-end journals, accruals and prepayments.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Partner with operational stakeholders to provide financial insight and challenge where appropriate.
- Assist with profitability analysis and cost reporting.
- Support cash flow forecasting and financial performance reporting.
- Contribute to process improvements across finance.
- Provide support with year-end activities and audit requirements where necessary.
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with data, building relationships across the business and adding value beyond the numbers. Ideally you'll have:
- AAT qualified or be actively studying ACCA/CIMA.
- Previous experience within an Assistant Accountant, Commercial Finance or Management Accounts role.
- Strong Excel skills and confidence analysing financial data.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with non-finance stakeholders.
- A proactive approach and willingness to learn.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
