Macildowie are exclusively partnering with a growing Midlands-based organisation to recruit an Accounts Assistant for their finance team based in Mountsorrel. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established, multi-site business with ambitious growth plans over the coming years. Reporting to the Financial Controller, this role will support the day-to-day running of the finance function, covering core transactional finance responsibilities while also offering exposure to month-end tasks such as accruals and prepayments. This role would suit someone looking to build on their existing finance experience and develop their accounting knowledge further.
The Role
You'll play an important role in ensuring the smooth running of the finance department and maintaining accurate financial records across the business. Key responsibilities include:
- Transactional Finance
- Processing purchase ledger invoices and supplier payments
- Supporting sales ledger activities
- Managing supplier and customer queries in a timely manner
- Performing bank reconciliations
- Maintaining accurate financial records and ledgers
- Updating and maintaining the fixed asset register
- Month-End Support
- Assisting with accruals and prepayments
- Supporting journal postings
- Assisting with balance sheet reconciliations
- Providing support during month-end close processes
- Assisting with year-end audit requirements where needed
- Budgeting & Business Support
- Supporting budgeting and forecasting processes
- Assisting with financial reporting tasks
- Working closely with operational teams to provide financial information
- Supporting continuous improvement of finance processes and systems
- Compliance
- Assisting with VAT returns and other statutory requirements
About You
To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:
- Previous experience in an accounts or finance role
- Good understanding of purchase ledger, sales ledger, and reconciliations
- Exposure to accruals, prepayments, or month-end processes would be highly advantageous
- AAT studying/qualified or looking to progress within finance
- Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
