Macildowie are working with this client based in Whittlesey, Peterborough to recruit a Logistics Planner for an established manufacturing business supplying products into the construction sector. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Transport or Logistics Planner who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are quite the same.

You'll take ownership of planning customer deliveries across dedicated depots, ensuring fleet capacity is used effectively, customer expectations are met and transport costs are carefully managed.

The Role

Working closely with drivers, transport coordinators, sales teams, customers and third-party hauliers, you'll be responsible for ensuring deliveries are planned efficiently and issues are resolved quickly. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning customer deliveries and driver loads using electronic scheduling systems
  • Planning ahead to maximise fleet utilisation and delivery efficiency
  • Identifying requirements for third-party haulage and coordinating additional transport where required
  • Working towards key performance measures including loads per day and cost per load
  • Minimising empty running and identifying opportunities to reduce transport costs
  • Reacting quickly to urgent loads, changes and operational issues
  • Resolving queries involving drivers, customers, sales teams and transport colleagues
  • Providing stakeholders with clear updates around delivery dates, failed loads and uncovered work
  • Analysing planning reports and system data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Maintaining strong communication with internal teams to protect customer service levels

About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, analytical and comfortable making decisions in a busy transport environment. You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience within transport, logistics or distribution planning
  • Knowledge of transport legislation and the Working Time Directive
  • Experience using computerised routing, scheduling or resource planning systems
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Excellent planning and prioritisation skills
  • The ability to problem solve and make decisions quickly
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with multiple stakeholders
  • Good literacy, numeracy and attention to detail
  • A proactive, flexible and team-focused approach

A CPC qualification or previous transport management experience would be advantageous but isn't essential.
