I am partnering with a growing, entrepreneurial construction business to appoint its first Financial Controller. This is a newly created role, established to bring the finance function in-house and provide greater control, visibility and insight as the business continues to expand. With one new operation already underway and plans for another next year, the Financial Controller will play a central role in building a finance function capable of supporting that growth.
This is not a purely strategic or review-focused appointment. The successful person will need to be hands-on, with a strong grounding in management accounting and the willingness to take direct ownership of the numbers while developing the wider team and improving reporting processes. For the right person, there is a clear route to progress into a Financial Director position.
The Company: This is a well-established and growing construction and development business, which has recently moved into a new, purpose-built office in Northamptonshire. The company is entering an exciting stage of its development, with a new business operation underway and further expansion planned for next year. All operations sit within the same wider business, creating a need for a stronger, fully integrated in-house finance function. You'll join an ambitious and supportive leadership team that wants finance to play an increasingly influential role in business planning and decision-making.
What You'll Do:
- Take responsibility for bringing the finance function fully in-house
- Produce monthly management accounts across the group of companies
- Own and manage the month-end process, supported by the wider finance team
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and actively manage the company's cash position
- Maintain oversight of debtor collection and ensure suppliers are paid accurately and on time
- Complete and submit monthly VAT returns
- Carry out monthly margin reviews and provide clear insight into project and business performance
- Review journals and maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial records
