Macildowie is proud to be working in partnership with Derbyshire Dales District Council on the recruitment of its next Financial Services Manager.

Derbyshire Dales District Council is looking for someone to lead its finance team and step in as deputy to the Director of Resources (the Section 151 Officer). You'll have a seat on the Senior Management Team, advise Members and the Corporate Leadership Team, and take ownership of the Council's core financial services, from the budget and council tax to the Statement of Accounts, treasury management, Collection Fund accounting and financial systems. You'll lead a team of accountants and drive financial confidence across the organisation.

You're likely to be a CCAB-qualified accountant with at least three years' public sector finance experience, including budget setting and control and preparing the Statement of Accounts. You'll have managed and developed staff, be confident in Excel and financial systems, and be a strong communicator who can influence at senior levels. A CIPFA qualification and local government experience are desirable, but not essential.

You don't need to come from local government.

If you have a strong finance background elsewhere in the public sector, such as the NHS, central government, housing, education, police or fire, we'd really like to hear from you. And if you don’t tick all of the requirements like local authority accounting or Collection Fund, please don't rule yourself out. There may be an opportunity to be upskilled where required.

What's on offer

  • Hybrid working, flexitime and agile working
  • 26 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 30 after five years, with the option to buy up to 10 extra days
  • Local Government Pension Scheme and 3x life assurance
  • Professional development and CPD opportunities
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies, employee assistance programme and wellbeing benefits
  • Free on-site parking at Matlock Town Hall
