Machnet Medical Robotics (MMR), founded in 2020, is on a mission to revolutionise medical robotics. Our guiding principle is simple: innovation must improve patient outcomes, support clinicians without disrupting workflows, and empower healthcare staff rather than adding burden. MMR is a well-funded company with long-term investors and a strong financial foundation. Our talented hardware and software team has successfully developed a fully functional prototype of our medical robotic platform, which has already undergone successful animal trials. With the prototype validated, we are now entering the next phase: maturing the architecture for production and scaling, ensuring safety, reliability, manufacturability, and regulatory readiness as we prepare to bring our technology to hospitals worldwide.

About the Role

We are looking for a senior Systems Engineer who combines electrical architecture depth with medical device safety and compliance expertise. This role is central to turning a working prototype into a robust product. You will shape and govern the electrical safety and EMC strategy across the platform, while also contributing to key architectural decisions around motors, motor driver circuits, power distribution, grounding, isolation, and fault behaviour. You will work closely with electrical, software, controls, and mechanical engineering, and help build a disciplined requirements and verification approach that scales with the company. You will also support external electrical safety/EMC testing activities and guide teams through complex EMI/EMC challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the electrical safety and EMC compliance approach for our robotic platform, with a focus on IEC 60601 and related standards.
  • Drive system-level electrical architecture decisions (motors, motor drivers, power electronics, grounding, isolation, fault handling).
  • Translate standards and safety expectations into clear, testable engineering requirements, working alongside Systems Engineering and V&V.
  • Build and maintain the standards-to-requirements-to-test traceability for electrical safety and EMC-related content.
  • Lead practical EMI/EMC problem-solving: root cause analysis, mitigation strategies, design changes, and validation of fixes.
  • Partner with V&V to ensure requirements are verifiable and that verification methods are sensible, efficient, and risk-informed.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for external test houses for electrical safety and EMC campaigns (planning, readiness, troubleshooting, review of findings).
  • Support internal pre-compliance activities to reduce costly surprises during formal testing.
  • Participate in risk management discussions where electrical hazards and system-level failure modes are evaluated and controlled.
  • Mentor and support engineers across disciplines, bringing patience, clarity, and strong engineering judgement to design reviews and technical decision-making.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in complex electromechanical products (medical devices strongly preferred; robotics/industrial systems also valuable).
  • Demonstrated experience with IEC 60601 compliance and interpretation in real product development.
  • Strong hands-on understanding of motors and motor driver circuits, and how they interact with system architecture, safety, and EMC.
  • Proven track record of resolving difficult EMI/EMC issues (not just running tests, actually fixing product-level problems).
  • Experience working with external test houses and supporting compliance test campaigns end-to-end.
  • Ability to write requirements that are unambiguous, testable, and traceable, and to collaborate effectively with V&V teams.
  • A mentoring mindset: ability to guide both senior and junior engineers through complex technical trade-offs.

Experiences We Value

  • Familiarity with ISO 14971 risk management and how risk controls map to requirements and verification.
  • Experience with regulated product development (CE/UKCA/FDA environments).
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities evolve, and ownership is broad.
  • Experience bridging electrical, software, and controls teams in system integration.

Why Join Us?

At MMR, you’ll work at the intersection of robotics, AI, and healthcare. You’ll help shape the architecture and safety foundations of a medical robotic platform moving from prototype to product. You’ll be part of a collaborative, impact-driven team where your technical expertise will directly influence patient outcomes and clinical adoption. We believe technology must serve people responsibly. At MMR, we value human-centred innovation, moral integrity, and long-term responsibility—both in how we design our products and how we treat our employees.

What We Offer

  • Join an international and interdisciplinary team based in the Netherlands (Zwolle) and Central London.
  • Contribute to a rapidly growing medical device startup with ambitious global impact goals.
  • A central London office with a hands-on engineering culture and access to prototyping.
  • Continuous learning and professional development through training, workshops, and conferences.
  • An inclusive and diverse workplace that values every team member.
  • A competitive salary package aligned with senior-level responsibility.
