MMR is a well‐funded company with long‐term investors and a strong financial foundation. Our talented hardware and software team has successfully developed a fully functional prototype of our medical robotic platform, which has already undergone successful animal trials. With the prototype validated, we are now entering the next phase: maturing the architecture for production and scaling, ensuring safety, usability, reliability, manufacturability, and regulatory readiness as we prepare to bring our technology to hospitals worldwide.

About the Role

We are looking for a UX/UI designer to join our growing engineering team in central London. In this role, you will hold a senior position and be a driving force with leadership for UX/UI design within our design and usability function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for UX/UI Design of our robotic platform, including supporting the definition of processes and ways of working, strategy, and planning.
  • Championing a user‐centered‐design process in a multidisciplinary R&D team, using an understanding of our end‐users and user needs to ensure we design the right product.
  • Actively supporting and steering user research activities/usability evaluations to inform the design of our products, including identifying research needs and questions, and supporting the delivery of research in terms of study plans, moderation, and reporting.
  • Confidently communicating best practice, design concepts, and design rationale to the R&D team and wider business stakeholders for alignment on short and longer‐term design.
  • Curation and management of product design systems, aligned with relevant design guidance and usability considerations, and backed by strong design rationale.
  • Distilling complex user interactions to deliver high‐fidelity wireframes, visual designs, workflows and detailed written specifications to developers as part of an agile process.
  • Proactively estimating design task effort then owning design efforts from 'concept' to 'ready for development', ensuring delivery in a timely manner accounting for potential roadblocks.

Who We’re Looking For

  • At least 7+ years' experience working as a software designer in previous roles, with strong, demonstrable experience in both user experience and visual design for complex systems.
  • A degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human‐Computer Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Human Factors or a related discipline.
  • A self‐starting attitude, and proven ability to take ownership of designs and seek inputs from different teams to deliver to project/product milestones.
  • Ability to drive design, productivity, change, and outcomes with little supervision and effective collaboration.
  • A comprehensive portfolio showing experience of leading the design of complex digital products, across the product lifecycle, and ability to effectively communicate the value of the UX/UI work.
  • Highly proficient using Figma, and Adobe Creative suite (preferred).
  • Eligibility to work on‐site at our central London office.
  • Proven Track Record for Ownership, Leadership, and Effective Execution of UX/UI design and strategy for complex systems.
  • In‐depth understanding of User‐Centred Design principles and techniques, and practical experience of applying these to benefit design, usability, and broader business needs.
  • Developing and maintaining a design system based on sound design rationale, implementing design change efficiently across the platform, and tracking design change control.
  • Systems‐thinking, visualising design (short and longer‐term) across the platform as well as for each sub‐system, with critical thinking around how design can elicit correct and incorrect use across hardware and software user interactions.
  • Collaboration with a user research/usability team, including planning and contributing to research, and analysing and owning insights for design decisions.
  • Design reviews/workshops with multi‐disciplinary teams with actionable outputs and agreed direction for product design and wider strategic efforts/road mapping.
  • Handover of designs to software developers, including design reviews, detailing design specifications, reviewing implementation, and testing.
  • Process definition and improvement, including agile methodologies.

Experience We Value

  • Experience developing user interfaces for medical robotics or regulated medical devices.
  • Experience working with design controls, risk management, human factors, and verification and validation activities for medical device development.
  • Experience in graphic design, to support the design of accompanying documentation such as instructions for use, marketing materials, and labelling.
  • Comfort operating in a fast‐paced startup environment where priorities evolve, and ownership is broad.

Why Join Us?
