Do you combine payroll expertise with hands-on Power Query and coding skills?
Can you investigate system interfaces, reconcile variable pay data and document complex processes?
Are you available immediately to take ownership of a critical payroll audit assignment?
MacGregor Black is partnering with a leading logistics and manufacturing business to appoint a Payroll Systems & Data Consultant, supporting its team in East Midlands.
This interim assignment requires a technically capable consultant to audit payroll data flows, document processes and assess risks across a complex, multi-site organisation.
The immediate focus is how variable pay—including overtime and shift allowances—moves between time and attendance and payroll systems. Working closely with Payroll, HR Shared Services and systems colleagues, you will investigate the detail, capture undocumented processes and identify practical improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit and document the Worklinq–ResourceLink interface, including variable pay inputs, transformations, checks and outputs.
- Use Power Query and coding skills to extract, analyse and reconcile data across systems.
- Investigate discrepancies and identify root causes, control weaknesses and manual dependencies.
- Capture knowledge held within the team and produce clear process maps, procedures and ownership documentation.
- Assess risks across the wider payroll landscape, including HR, absence, time and attendance, and payroll systems.
- Review employee lifecycle processes and responsibilities across Payroll and HR Shared Services.
- Present prioritised findings and practical recommendations for correction and improvement.
- Take ownership of the remaining scope through a structured handover with the current consultant.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in payroll systems analysis, payroll integrations or technical payroll consulting.
- Strong, practical Power Query and coding capability, with experience investigating and reconciling payroll data.
- A sound understanding of variable pay, overtime, shift allowances and time and attendance interfaces.
- Experience auditing processes, assessing risks and documenting controls and responsibilities.
- Confidence gathering information from operational teams where processes are not formally documented.
- Experience with Worklinq and ResourceLink highly desirable; familiarity with MyHR and Absence Manager beneficial.
- Immediate availability and the ability to work independently, establish priorities and deliver quickly.
