Do you have strong technical knowledge of womenswear fit, construction and garment development?
Are you experienced in working directly with overseas factories to deliver high-quality, commercially viable products?
Would you like to work across a diverse portfolio of internationally recognised fashion and lifestyle brands?
MacGregor Black is currently partnering with a leading international fashion and lifestyle group in the search for a Garment Technologist. This is a permanent position based in Central London.
The successful candidate will support the technical development of womenswear and multi-product collections across an established portfolio of licensed and owned brands. Working closely with Design, Buying, Production and overseas manufacturing partners, you will ensure products meet the required standards of fit, construction, quality and compliance from initial development through to bulk production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the technical development of allocated styles from initial prototype through to pre-production approval.
- Conduct garment fittings, assess fit and construction, and provide clear technical comments to suppliers and internal teams.
- Create and maintain technical workbooks, including garment measurements, grading, specifications and manufacturing instructions.
- Work closely with Design and Buying teams to ensure product development aligns with brand requirements and commercial objectives.
- Review and approve prototype, salesman and pre-production samples, ensuring consistency in fit, quality and construction.
- Liaise directly with overseas factories to resolve technical issues and support efficient product development.
- Monitor fabric performance, garment testing and compliance requirements across allocated product categories.
- Identify potential quality and production risks, implementing corrective actions to minimise delays and improve right-first-time development.
- Manage technical approvals against critical path deadlines, ensuring products progress efficiently into production.
- Collaborate with Production teams and overseas suppliers to maintain consistent technical standards across multiple brands and categories.
What Are We Looking For?
- Previous experience in a Garment Technologist or similar technical development role, ideally within a branded fashion or lifestyle business.
- Strong womenswear experience, with the ability to work across multiple apparel categories and accessories.
- Comprehensive knowledge of garment construction, fit, patterns, grading and manufacturing processes.
- Experience conducting fit sessions and communicating technical amendments clearly to factories.
- Previous experience working directly with overseas manufacturers, particularly across South Asia.
- Confident understanding of technical specifications, garment testing, quality standards and product compliance.
- Ability to manage multiple styles and development timelines within a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong attention to detail, with a practical and solutions-focused approach to technical challenges.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the confidence to work independently and across cross-functional teams.
- Pattern-cutting knowledge would be advantageous.
