Head of Production in Doncaster

Head of Production in Doncaster

Doncaster Full-Time On-site
M

Have you independently managed production across multiple (ideally 8+) international manufacturing partners or factories, without close oversight from above?

Do you have experience operating as a senior \"second in command\" to a Manufacturing Director or similar, owning strategic production delivery end to end?

What size and complexity of international supply chain have you managed, and across how many factories concurrently?

MacGregor Black is partnering with a global manufacturer of technical protective clothing on the search for a Head of Production based in Doncaster, UK.

This is a business built on a reputation for safety-critical, high-performance garments used by professionals across more than 80 countries. The Head of Production operates as second in command to the Director of Manufacturing, taking full, independent ownership of production delivery across a network of 9–10 international manufacturing partners. This is a senior, autonomous leadership role — you will be trusted to run the operation without hand-holding, driving strategic projects, supplier performance and cross-functional delivery at pace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end manufacturing delivery across multiple product categories, international manufacturing partners and raw material supply chains
  • Act as second in command to the Director of Manufacturing, deputising fully in their absence
  • Lead and execute strategic manufacturing projects and quarterly sprints
  • Build and manage senior-level relationships with manufacturing partners and suppliers, driving performance, quality and on-time delivery
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration and alignment across Supply Chain, Product Development, Quality and Operations
  • Lead onboarding and capability assessment of new manufacturing and supply chain partners
  • Hold ultimate accountability for product quality and standards being upheld consistently across the supply chain
  • Manage and develop the Production Administrator, who reports directly into this role, supporting production coordination and administration
  • Operate with full autonomy across a portfolio of 9–10 international factories, resolving issues and making judgment calls independently

What We're Looking For

  • Significant senior experience in apparel, technical workwear or performance clothing production/manufacturing, ideally at Production Manager level or above
  • Proven track record independently managing multiple (8+) international manufacturing partners at scale, without close supervision
  • Comfortable operating in a smaller, closer-knit business structure rather than a large corporate manufacturing environment — this is a hands-on, \"second in command\" role, not a layered corporate function
  • Strong commercial and strategic judgement, able to balance quality, cost and delivery across a complex global supply chain
  • Confident people manager, comfortable directly managing and developing a junior team member
  • Background in PPE, technical workwear or performance clothing highly desirable
  • Confident, credible leader able to represent the business directly with senior manufacturing partners
