Director of HR

Do you have the ability to influence senior leadership, build high-performing HR teams, and turn data into decisions that drive real, measurable impact?

Are you confident shaping and delivering change projects while keeping people engagement at the heart of it all?

Are you looking for a role where you can embed long-term, values-led leadership while navigating the realities of ER, change, and operational scale?

MacGregor Black is partnering with a Multi-Site Operation on the search for a Director of HR. This is a permanent hybrid position, commutable to the South West.

As Director of HR, you’ll take ownership of the people agenda and lead a regional HR team to deliver robust, consistent and forward-thinking people strategies that align with operational goals, elevate employee engagement and support business growth. You’ll act as a trusted partner to divisional leadership, ensuring HR is both a strategic enabler and a frontline support function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the divisional HR function, ensuring consistent delivery of Group-wide HR policies, procedures and initiatives
  • Act as the primary HR business partner to divisional operations leadership, advising on people strategy, organisational design, and workforce planning
  • Drive employee engagement, development and retention strategies aligned with the company’s culture and commercial goals
  • Oversee ER casework and ensure legal compliance, working closely with site HR leads to mitigate risk and manage stakeholder relationships effectively
  • Support and lead change management projects including TUPE, openings/closures, restructures and cultural transformation
  • Contribute to the development of HR strategies and play a key role in translating these into operational execution
  • Monitor and analyse divisional HR metrics, using data to inform decisions, improve performance and drive accountability
  • Develop and coach HR teams across the region, building capability and ensuring a high standard of operational HR delivery

What We're Looking For:

  • Significant experience in a senior HR leadership role
  • Proven track record of partnering with operational leaders to deliver impactful, commercially aligned HR solutions
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law, employee relations and unionised environments
  • Adept at leading change, with experience in TUPE, restructures and transformation programmes
  • Strategic thinker with a pragmatic, hands-on leadership style and excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrable success in developing, coaching and leading regional or site-based HR teams
  • Data-driven, results-focused and comfortable influencing at senior levels within a fast-paced, operationally intense business
  • Collaborative, credible and resilient with a clear commitment to values-driven leadership
