Macgregor Black are partnering with a well-established and growing business seeking an experienced Commercial Financial Controller to join its leadership team during an important period of transition and development. This is a broad, commercially focused leadership role with real scope to influence financial performance, strengthen operational effectiveness, and support continued business growth. Working closely with the Finance Director, the successful candidate will take ownership of day-to-day finance operations while providing high-quality commercial insight across the wider organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and execution of the financial strategy in line with business objectives.
- Provide commercial insight, financial analysis, and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Lead the preparation of statutory financial statements and manage the external audit process.
- Oversee core finance operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital performance.
- Ensure strong financial controls, governance, and compliance frameworks are in place.
- Deliver robust variance analysis, KPI reporting, and performance insight across the business.
- Drive continuous improvement across finance systems, reporting, and processes.
- Identify and implement opportunities for automation and efficiency gains.
- Lead, coach, and develop members of the finance team.
About You
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Proven experience in a senior finance role with strong operational and commercial exposure.
- Strong technical accounting capability, including statutory reporting and audit management.
- Commercially focused with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience improving finance processes, controls, and systems.
- Strong communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Hands-on approach with the ability to add value quickly from day one.
