We are recruiting a Senior Revenue Manager to join our Finance department. Joining Macfarlanes means being part of a collaborative, approachable team who want you to succeed. The Macfarlanes’ Revenue team consists of approximately 18 people, all reporting to the Senior Revenue Manager. The team is managed day-to-day by a Senior Revenue Controller and a Senior Credit Controller, who also has responsibility for e-billing. The team sits within the wider Finance department which consists of 40 employees and falls into several different areas; revenue, cashiers, accounts payable, finance systems and management accountants.

The Senior Revenue Manager is responsible for overseeing all revenue management and credit control activities for Macfarlanes. They will be an integral member of the finance management team and will act as a business partner to the firm’s Partners and fee earners with the principal objective of optimising revenue and speed of cash collection.

Duties will include:

  • Strategy and leadership: identify and develop solutions for service enhancements aimed at reducing lockup days, and establish clear targets against which progress towards this objective can be measured; have experience in understanding of rate structures and alternative billing arrangements; play a leading role within the wider finance management team, contributing to strategy development, driving operational decision-making, and influencing key discussions across the function; and meet regularly with the Managing Partner to provide insights and analysis on working capital management.
  • Management and development: provide strong leadership and have full responsibility for development and performance of the Finance Revenue team and ensure targets for lockup day reductions are devolved to the team; prepare monthly billing and collections forecasts and ensure the firm meets these targets; responsible for all activities related to WIP management, client billing and collections and agree controls and metrics to balance workload across the team and to demonstrate process effectiveness; and ensure the Finance Revenue team are meeting and participating in wider finance department objectives, initiatives and upholding best practice.
  • Relationship building: maintain good relationships with Partners, especially practice area heads and ensure each practice area is well supported by a dedicated member from the Finance Revenue team.
  • Client focus: agree enhanced internal processes to support any complex billing needs for our top clients; and develop relationships with client Partners (internally) and clients’ finance professionals (externally) to ensure speedier processing of bills and collection of money from our Top 30 clients.

  • Client service and communication: a proven background of taking responsibility for delivering tasks and following through with the resolution of issues, including meeting deadlines and working in a fast-paced environment; a sophisticated communicator with the ability to build strong working relationships and a persuasive presenter, equally comfortable engaging with stakeholders across the firm; builds a reputation as a reliable advisor by identifying opportunities; anticipates potential client needs by understanding their commercial pressures; and confident in situations that require negotiation with an inclusive approach.
