Overview

Join to apply for the Real Estate Associate 1 to 2 years\’ PQE role at Macfarlanes.

The Real Estate group is seeking to recruit an Associate (ideally one to two years’ PQE) with at least 2 years’ experience in commercial real estate to work as part of a close-knit team assisting one of the firm’s biggest clients.

What this means for you

Offering a partner-led service enables our fee earners to learn and develop through working closely with a senior member of the team. Our size means that you will often be very close to the front line or in a client facing role, gaining a greater insight into the issues facing our clients.

We expect all our fee earners to assume real responsibility, as well as to participate in client and business development activities. That means wider exposure for you and a steep learning curve.

The importance we place on the development of our fee earners’ legal and commercial skills has allowed us to develop the excellent reputation we have – we believe our education and training programme is second to none.

We all work together as part of a cohesive and supportive team, with the firm recognising, appreciating and rewarding the efforts of its employees.

Practice overview

Our Real Estate group currently consists of eight Partners, two Consultants, seven Senior Counsels, 33 Associates, four Knowledge Lawyers, six Trainee Solicitors and five Paralegals.

The role

The successful candidate will work closely with a major institutional client, gaining exposure to a wide variety of high-quality real estate matters. This is a hands-on role offering client contact and responsibility from the outset, within a supportive team:

  • advising on asset management transactions, including leases, licences, renewals and day-to-day portfolio management;
  • managing a substantial caseload of your own matters with appropriate supervision;
  • handling acquisitions and disposals of investment assets;
  • supporting senior lawyers on complex and strategic matters, such as development projects, conditional pre-lets, and large-scale portfolio transactions;
  • building direct client relationships from day one; and
  • taking on early responsibility, with opportunities to progress to more complex work as experience grows.

This job description encompasses the main duties of the role and is by no means exhaustive. It is anticipated that duties may vary from time to time according to the needs of the practice area.

The candidate

We want to recruit a lawyer that fulfils the following criteria:

  • preferably qualified with at least two years of experience in commercial real estate;
  • strong landlord & tenant knowledge;
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to provide pragmatic, client-focused advice;
  • a team player who is looking to work within a supportive and high-performing team;
  • confidence in managing a large caseload; and
  • proactive and diligent.

Application screening

Any offer of employment with us is subject to our pre-employment checks which are conducted by a third-party screening provider. These may include but are not limited to your professional and academic qualifications, any criminal records and employment references. These checks will be initiated with your consent and your offer will be subject to the successful completion of these checks.
